Adoption Costs

Now that we are involved in the process of adopting for a second time, we are once again seeing how each step along the way adds up to make the whole.  

We share this in hopes of making the process easier to understand for our friends and family as well as helping up to keep up along the way so we know what fee is coming next! :-) 

These are in the order that we will be required to pay them.  

INITIAL FEES

PAID $250 - initial application fee with our placing agency
WAIVED $300 - application fee for our home study agency
PAID $500 - contract fee with our home study agency
PAID $100 so far $275 - application fee and donation to become a Reece's Rainbow family

PAID $900 - home study update fee
$97 - home study fingerprinting (looks like we don't have to redo!!!)
PAID $1000 - post placement report fees; China requires 6 reports, three done by our agency and these must be paid upfront plus Alabama requires 1 additional

PAID $300 - home study review by our placing agency

PAID $720 - I-800A application fee

PAID $170 - fingerprinting for I-800A

FEES ASSOCIATED WITH DOSSIER

PAID $600 - costs for regular/overnight mail throughout adoption process
PAID $260 - Dossier translation 
PAID $3000 - agency fees for processing case (normally $8000, discounted        because our little guy had grants applied...praise the Lord!)
PAID $1100 - dossier registration fee paid to China

PAID $500 - charitable aid and development contribution fee to placing agency

PRIOR TO TRAVEL

PAID $105 Passport for Ethan
PAID $560 - Visas for us to travel
PAID $140 - Courier fees for Visas
PAID $5000 - estimated cost for meals, ground transfers, tips, guide, translator  (this number seems high based on our last trip...praying it is significantly less)
PAID $1760 - hotel estimate while in China

PAID $6000  - estimated flight from US to China for Ellie, Ethan and Mommy plus flight back for our little guy

PAID $325 $325 - visa for our little guy
PAID $1500 $1500 - professional services fee paid to our placing agency

PAID $1000 $1000 - post adoption bond; paid and then refunded once all post adoption reports are complete

DURING TRAVEL IN CHINA

PAID $1100 - varies by province for preparation of Chinese adoption documents and passport for our little guy

WAIVED $5700 - orphanage donation (pray with us that this will be waived or reduced)

DONATION FROM A SPECIAL FRIEND (PAID) $300 - medical exam and vaccination for our little guy
